ObituaryMr. Walter John Batiste Sr. was born August 27, 1942 in Breaux Bridge, LA to the late Francis and Bibiana Batiste of Breaux Bridge, LA. He was the third child of six children. Though he was born in Breaux Bridge he moved to Jennings, LA to live with his Uncle and Aunt, George and Cecil Batiste at a young age. He made his transition into heaven October 31, 2025 surrounded by family and friends. Walter received his education from the Jeff Davis Parish School system and graduated form Jeff Davis High School in 1963. He entered a loving relationship with Mary Demouchet in 1971 and they were later joined in holy matrimony December 2, 1972. Their union produced three children, Walter Jr., Dameum, and Shantella. He was also the loving father of Dana, Brenton and Nashone. His career was spent as a machine operator for Southern Pacific Railroads which later transitioned to Union Pacific Railroads. He was employed with the railroad for 41 years until his retirement in 2005. Walter "Poon" Batiste was known by everyone in Jennings, both young and old. Some would consider him the neighborhood watch. He enjoyed barbecuing, sitting on the porch and telling stories to any and everyone who would listen. He spent his later years helping out with school and practice drop offs and pick ups for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. To celebrate is life and legacy, he leaves his wife, Mary Agnes Batiste of Jennings; his children Dana Fields (Deacue) of Fayetteville, AR; Walter Batiste Jr.(Toya) of Sulphur, LA; Shantella of Lake Charles, LA; Brenton Soileau of Houston, TX; Nashone Ray(Nathaniel) of Baton Rouge, LA;one sister, Vivian Dobbins of Breaux Bridge, LA; Sisters-in-law, Gladys Demouchet, Shirley Daniels(Ricky), and Barbara Celestine(Shelton) and Brother-in-law, Stephen Demouchet, all of Breaux Bridge, LA; godchildren, Greg Castille, Bernard Johnson, and Meta Mouton all of Jennings, LA; Erica McZeal of Galveston, TX; and Frank Demouchet of Breaux Bridge, LA; 25 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Bibiana Batiste; his siblings, Ernest Batiste, Alton Batiste, Yvonne Mercier, Eva Diggs, and his son, Dameum.
