A proud scholar, Miss J graduated from Washington High School, Class of 1973, and went on to earn her degree in Social Work from Grambling State University, Class of 1978. Sherlyn dedicated many years of service to the Calcasieu Parish School Board Transportation Department, where she worked as a trusted and compassionate school bus driver, ensuring generations of children arrived safely at school each day. After retiring from Calcasieu Parish, she continued her commitment to student safety by serving with the Houston Independent School District (HISD) in the transportation department. She took great pride in her work and the young lives she supported.

Sherlyn was known for her gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering dedication to family and community. She loved being a mother, traveling, cooking, cheering for football and basketball, spending time with friends, and meeting everyone she could possibly meet—truly, no one was a stranger to her.
