Obituary

Jennings- Mr. Hartman was calling home peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Monday,  May 13, 2024.

Paul Hartman Sr., was born to Bessie Hartman and Mark Haynes on August 23rd, 1944, in Lake Charles, Louisiana.Paul accepted Christ at an early age at New Sunlight Baptist Church pastored by Rev. Dr. Victor Elijah Washington.He received his childhood education in the Lake Charles City School System at Second Ward Elementary School. He would then go on to attend high school at William Oscar (W.O.) Boston High School (now Lake Charles Boston) where he was a member of the Freshman Achievement Society and the football team.  He graduated in 1965 and shortly thereafter, he married his high school sweetheart, Maxine Sallier on July 10, 1965.  To this union, one son was born.  He continued his education on a full football scholarship to Lincoln University, an HBCU in Jefferson City, Missouri. In 1966, Paul, joined the United States Air Force, where he served for four years including serving in Vietnam.  Following life in the military, he went to work for the Conoco Petroleum Company.  With a desire to move into a different career, Paul Sr. chose to attend Sowela Technical Community College and McNeese State University to pursue a degree inaccounting and finance.  On January 16, 1995, he united in holy matrimony with Dianna Guillory of Lake Charles, LA.  Through this union, he gained two more daughters.With his entrepreneurial spirit, Paul started Hartman Tax Service which serviced the Lake Charles community for over 45 years.  He was an avid dog lover that enjoyed grilling, watching football, and listening to Instrumental Jazz music.  On May 23, 2008, Paul married Ericka Kelly of Jennings, LA.

Surrounded by loved ones, the Lord called Paul Sr. home on Monday, May13, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents.  He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Ericka Kelly-Hartman of Jennings, LA, his son, Paul (Marla) Hartman Jr. of Garland, TX, his three daughters, Tawnya Moore,  of Houston, TX, Sakima Guillory and Joyce (Larry) Bilbo, of Lake Charles, LA, his two bonus daughters, Kim Kerlegan and Karen (BJ) Kerlegan-Simien of Lake Charles, LA, 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, one sister, Pauline Haynes of Lancaster, CA, two special cousins (more like sisters) Rose Mary Qualls of Houston, TX and Evelyn M. Bellard of Lake Charles, LA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and close friends

A Memorial Service has be set for June 15, 2024 in The Golden Doors Event Center 2013 Oak Park Blvd, in Lake Charles from 10am-2pm.
