Obituary

Clayton shared a beautiful love story with his beloved wife, Cynthia McZeal. Nearly 59 years ago, it was love at first sight, and they never looked back. Together, their devotion built a life of legacy that would last for generations.

Clayton was a devoted man of faith, for more than 50 years, he faithfully served at Union Baptist Church. He dedicated years to the transportation ministry for Sunday worship and special church events. He also barbecued for the culinary ministry, assisted with the sound technology, and the UBC Layman ministry. His commitment to serving his church reflected his servant's heart.

Many will remember Clayton most by his warm smile. He had a special gift for making others smile. No matter the situation, Clayton could find something to laugh about and always found a way to keep those around him laughing.

Clayton found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was a bass fisherman who cherished time spent on the water. He was also a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team and playfully go against his home team, the Saints.

Clayton is adored by his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who cherished the time spent with those he loved. The legacy he leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Jennie McZeal; his brothers, Haywood McZeal, Ray McZeal, Amos McZeal, Carleis McZeal, and George McZeal; and his sisters, Esther Jackson and Lela Fontenot.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy, his beloved wife of 59 years, Cynthia McZeal; his brother, Charles “Miller” McZeal; his sons, David Clayton McZeal Jr. and Timothy “Tim” McZeal; his grandchildren, Donte Quamaine McZeal, Raven (Dwight) McZeal-Barker, Tinasia “Tootie” McZeal, and Tamia “Meme” McZeal; and his great-grandchildren, Dwight “Tre” Barker III, Dru Eli Barker, and Daison Emir Barker. He also leaves behind a host of loving nieces and nephews.

“For I know that my redeemer liveth, And that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, Yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, And mine eyes shall behold, and not another, Though my reins be consumed within me.” Job 19: 25-27
