Mrs. Loretta Gayle Jones, the daughter of the late Joseph and Matilda Lavergne, was
born in Lafayette, LA, on July 15, 1947. Loretta accepted Jesus Christ as her personal
Savior at an early age. She was baptized at Union Baptist Church in Jennings, LA.
Loretta graduated from Jeff Davis High school and thereafter attended Southern
University in Baton Rouge, LA. Loretta lived most of her life in Houston, Tx. It is there
that she married her husband Burrell Jones and began her professional career
working for Western Geophysical Oil Company and then later retiring from the state
of Texas.
Loretta found great joy in spending time with her daughter, Meta, and traveling to visit
family members and loved ones. She also enjoyed volunteering within her community
as a member of the Red Hat Society and being an active participant in the church she
loved so much, Freedom Worship Assembly Baptist Church pastored by Rev. Toddrick
D. Johnson of Houston, TX. In her spare time, she could often be found enjoying Bingo
with friends and spending time at the casino. Loretta will always be remembered for
her giving spirit, kindness, sense of humor and her love to be among her family and
loved ones.
Loretta leaves to cherish her loving memories: one special daughter, Meta V. Mouton
of Jennings, LA, one special brother Kenneth "Groove
" Lavergne (Judy) of Scott, LA
and Godchildren: Donsjae Palfrey and Melba Dance. Loretta was preceded in death by
parents Joseph and Matilda Lavergne, sisters, Geneva Johnson and Althea Cagler and
brothers, Larry Lavergne and Alvin Lavergne. Loretta was a beloved auntie, cousin
and friend to many who will forever cherish her memory
