James Ricky
Monceaux
Apr 17, 1952 — Mar 8, 2026
James Ricky Monceaux, passed away on March 9, 2026, at his home, at the age of 73.
Born in Gueydan, Louisiana, Ricky attended Oberlin High School where he excelled in
football, basketball, and track. After attending the University of Southwest Louisiana for one
year, he returned home to Oberlin to become a rice, soybean, and crawfish farmer. After a
career in farming, he worked as a carpenter although he was known to be fluent in many
trades. In addition to being a carpenter, he was a welder, a mechanic, an electrician and
could fix nearly anything and had an aptitude for building things. Working with his hands was
something that came very natural to him.
In addition to being a competent skilled worker, he was an avid outdoorsman. From an early
age he was very much at home in the woods either hunting or fishing. It is fair to say he was a
gifted hunter and fisherman, and the outdoors truly was a passion of his. He seemed happiest
deer and duck hunting or camping and fishing on the Calcasieu River. He also enjoyed raising
and caring for all types of animals. From the time he was a young man, his home always had a
pen or a fence with some type of animals he was raising. Although he did not have formal
training, he was known to be very knowledgeable in the care and treatment of animals. Ricky
was also gifted and fearless on horseback. He was a natural at breaking a horse, roping a cow
and herding livestock. This is a testament to the many talents and gifts he was blessed with.
Ricky will be dearly remembered and loved by the many people in his family and community.
Preceded in death by his parents, Weston Monceaux, Sr. and Vergie Lacomb Monceaux; his
brother, Weston Monceaux, Jr.; and his daughter, Jocelyn Corrine Monceaux.
He is survived by his loving partner, Rose Medford and her son Derek Medford; his daughter,
Danielle Monceaux, his two sons, Cory Monceaux and fiancé Jessie Saunooke, and Brandon
Monceaux and wife Katherine Antoon Monceaux; one sister, Sheryl Monceaux Banks, and
three brothers, Gregory Monceaux and wife Charlon Grey Monceaux, Marvin Monceaux, and
Patrick Monceaux; and grandchildren Baylor Medford, Blayden Monceaux, Camille Monceaux,
Adam Monceaux, and Tommy Monceaux.
