Obituary

Scripture
1 Corinthians 13:13 "So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the
greatest of these is love".

Debra Lee (Lyons) Williams, 66, of Welsh, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on January 13,
2026. She was born on December 31, 1959, to the late Betty Jean Jackson Lyons Lockett and
Curtis Lyons Jr.
Debra grew up in Welsh, Louisiana, where she attended Mary McLeod Bethune High School
and was baptized at Jones United Methodist Church. As a young adult and single mother of five
she moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana. She later in life married Jimmy Williams and relocated to
Florida before eventually returning home to Louisiana.
Family was her greatest devotion. Anyone who truly had the chance to know her understood
that she was the very epitome of family. Debra raised her five children in a home filled with love,
laughter, and acceptance—free from judgment. She fed, clothed, and provided a safe place for
so many, giving as though her resources were endless. She truly had a rare gift for always
having exactly what someone needed. As many of her nieces and nephews would say, "I bet
Aunt Debra has it." She was someone you could always call on and count on.
Debra was known for giving selflessly and loving endlessly. She was a very bright spirit whose
presence filled every room she entered. She spoke her mind with no filter—blunt, honest, and
unapologetically herself. She did not judge people by age, profession, or social status, often
saying, "Right is right and wrong is wrong." Her heart was open to everyone.
She encouraged everyone to be themselves and loved teaching the younger generation how to
cook, bake, and sew. Debra found joy in preparing large meals for family gatherings and
dancing to zydeco music. She never believed in sitting still—she was always working on
projects around the house or tending to her plants.
Debra was the heart and soul of our family—a protector, a provider, and a waymaker. She was
home, love, and comfort. Though small in stature, her spirit was mighty and bright. She will be
missed beyond words.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons: Nathaniel Celestine; Courtney (Kayla) Lyons;
and Randall (Alexis) Lyons, all of Lake Charles, Louisiana; one bonus son, Mario Brown of
Miami, Florida; one daughter, Normanda Nicolas of Humble, Texas; eight grandchildren: Laycia
Fontenot, Kah'laina Lyons, Kourtney Lyons, and Kourtlon Lyons, all of Lake Charles, Louisiana;
Devran Nicolas, Laiyaley Nicolas, Alaya Nicolas, and Arabelle Nicolas of Humble, Texas; her
godchild, Jashika (Clarence) Bivens; thirteen siblings: Curtis Lyons, Nathaniel Lyons, Cynthia
Lyons, Marion Berry, Carey Lyons, Lionel Lyons, Harold Lyons, Ronnie Lyons, Yolanda

(Bradley) Lemonia, Steven Lyons, Dion Polk, Phillip (Deon) Jackson Sr., and Harold (Vandell)
Lockett; one uncle, Rudy (Ida) Jackson of Welsh, Louisiana; one aunt, Brenda Denkins of
Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Williams; her parents, Betty Lockett and
Curtis Lyons Sr.; her daughter, LaKosha Lyons; and her brothers, Kenneth Lyons and Chad
Jackson Sr.
