Catherine
Pattum
Jul 1, 1947 — Mar 16, 2026
Catherine "Cat" Marie Davis Pattum, 78, of Lake Arthur, Louisiana, departed this life on Monday, March 16, 2026, in
Jennings, Louisiana. She was born in Lake Arthur on July 1, 1947, to Esther McZeal Davis and Clemon Davis. In
her later years, she married Solomon Pattum.
Catherine was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church, where her faith guided her throughout her life. She enjoyed
teaching and inspiring the youth, serving as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. During her
dedicated service at Antioch, she also served as an usher, custodian, Usher Ministry President, member of the
Mission Ministry, and Vice President of the Junior Usher Ministry in the Seventh District.
She graduated from Bethune High School in Welsh, Louisiana, in 1965. Music brought Catherine extraordinary joy,
and she was a proud member of the Bethune Jaguar Marching Band. Catherine attended Atlanta Technical School
in Atlanta, Georgia where she obtained her CDA, Child Development Associate.
Catherine worked for many years as an educator with Head Start in Jennings, where she found great fulfillment in
teaching children. She also shared the joy of music with the children by teaching them how to read music and play
musical instruments. In her later years, she continued serving others through her work as a caregiver.
She was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan—she was Dallas' number one "Couch Coach." Everyone knew not to call her
when the game was on because she was not going to answer! She was also a marathon TV watcher who loved
Wheel of Fortune, Leave It to Beaver, and Home Alone. Among her favorite hobbies were playing Pick 3's and
buying scratch-offs.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her sisters, Barbara A. Lewis of Roanoke, LA, and Denise Mechell of Lake
Charles, LA; her brothers, Calvin Douglas and John Douglas, both of Lake Charles, LA; her nieces, Nadlyn (Hunter)
Rideaux and Andrea (Keith) Young; her nephews, Keith (Jacqueline) Collins, Greg (Keisha) Lewis, and Lorenzo
Collins; her uncles, Clayton (Cynthia) McZeal and Charles McZeal; her godchildren, Darrien Gardener, Devante
Duhon, D'Aunte Williams and Lorenzo Collins; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Solomon Pattum; her parents, Esther and Clemon Davis; her
sisters, Deloris Collins Malveaux and Gertrude Jackson; her nephews, Dwain Lewis and Darrick Lewis.
The family extends their deepest appreciation to her caregivers, Marla Green, Dernise Duhon, and Lindsey Legros.
Thank you for being there when we could not.
A special acknowledgment is extended to Dr. Wilder and staff, and the staff members of All Ways Caring
